Well, just in case you were wondering (and I know you were) how change in this world is going to come, I'll tell you right now. It's not how you think: good politicians, fixing the economy, or finding a solution to greenhouse gasses. Nope. It's through chocolate! Yummy milk chocolate to be precise.

Check out the Barack Obama Chocolate Bar for Change. I don't know how it'll change the world, but... it is a chocolate bar, so my hopes are high! On the website provided, you can get three bars for $7.50 US, which is actually a great price, as I paid almost $4.00 US for just one. So, if you want to make a difference, maybe you should go ahead and grab a few bars! While you're in the mood for world changing chocolate, take it an extra step further and try the Climate Change Chocolate.

The Bold and the Buttery

Cupcakes and cakes are absolute perfection when iced in buttercream. There's just no substitute for the stuff - no low fat, low calorie, health food alternative - so don't act like you're sad about that fact. We're all in the same calorie ridden, finger licking, buttery icing-loving club. Buttercream also belongs to my long list of beautiful foods. You know the ones I'm talking about: those shallow, gorgeous eats that I keep raving on about with their tasty appearances.

What's your favourite recipe for buttercream? I'm a huge fan of Magnolia's Cupcakes (made famous by the girls from Sex and the City) and their buttery topping. And, of course, true to my Martha-loving nature, I also suggest this recipe for Chocolate Buttercream.

Once you've iced your cake, raise the beauty bar a bit, add a few edible flowers (marigolds, carnation petals, chrysanthemums, violets, geraniums) for decoration.

Do you have any suggestions on how to make a cake extra gorgeous? Are you a fan of Buttercream Icing?

More Chocolate!

Now that Easter Weekend is over, and we're all recovering from chocolate-overdose induced comas, it's time to reflect on the delicious delicacies we've all indulged in over the past few days.

The main ingredient in the majority of these foods? Chocolate. Chocolate eggs, chocolate bunnies, chocolate anything, really.

My personal favourite chocolatey treat: Bird Nests. They take just a few minutes to make, and even less time to eat. So in a few weeks, when you begin to feel the chocolate withdrawals begin, whip up a batch of these beauties.

All you need is 6 ounces of dark chocolate, 2 cups unsweetened shredded coconut, 2 tbsp fancy shredded coconut, and a bag of Micro Mini Eggs.

First, melt the chocolate in a double boiler. Stir in the unsweetened coconut, and scoop the mixture by the tablespoon on a parchment-lined cookie sheet. Press down the centre of each of the mounds slightly to make a nest shape. Sprinkle the fancy coconut over the nests, and place three Micro Mini Eggs in the pressed down area. Refrigerate for 1/2 an hour, and you're done!

If you need an excuse to make them, they're perfect for a baby shower or a children's birthday party - or just a night in with the girls and a bottle of Oyster Bay Cuvée Rosé.

Everyone has a cookbook that they can't live without.

I've got three.

First, the Bravo! Best of Bridge Cookbook. It's got an amazing assortment of recipes and one-liners to keep you entertained throughout the book. My favourites? Overnight Raspberry French Toast (just picture it...), and the Thai Chicken and Mango Stir-Fry. The stir-fry is lighter than you'd think, but delightfully saturated by a gentle coconut flavour. The recipes are very simply laid out, the ingredients are common, and there are handy tips and variations for many of the recipes. I use it regularly, and imagine that you would as well.

Second, Donna Hay's Modern Classics Book 2. What makes it so wonderful are the photographs. There's a photo for each recipe, and they're done in natural light. They're absolutely beautiful. The Orange and Poppyseed Cake is delicious, and absolutely gorgeous with candied orange rind and orange syrup on top. Another beauty: Blueberry Swirl Cheesecake. It's as yummy as it is easy on the eyes.

Raspberries on Chocolate Cake

Last, but definitely not least, The Golden Book of Chocolate. With over 300 chocolatey recipes in this book, you're bound to find a recipe for every occasion, from simple to very elegant. Entertaining? Try the Chocolate Raspberry Crostata. Making something for the family? The White Chocolate Peanut Butter Cupcakes are perfect.

Don't take my word for it, these books are amazing - give them a try for yourself. What are your favourite cookbooks?

Everyone loves chocolate covered strawberries. They are easy to make, easy to eat, they're chocolate, and not even that unhealthy (or so I tell myself). In fact, I pre-made some tonight for a night in with some girlfriends on Friday, and it's going to take some serious will power to make sure they survive the night.

For these particular strawberries, I used dark and white chocolate, then rolled some in chopped pistachios and sweetened shredded coconut.

First, wash strawberries thoroughly, keeping the leaves/stems on, and then pat dry. Next, shell and chop the pistachios. Whether you use salted or unsalted is up to you. I prefer to use salted, as the salt tends to both bring out and compliment the sweetness of the chocolate.

Now for the good stuff: melt the chocolate, either in a double boiler or in the microwave. If you melt it in the microwave, do it in 30-second increments, stirring well between reheating.

Now spread some coconut out on one dish and the chopped pistachios on another. Grab a strawberry by the base of the leaves and dunk in the chocolate. Rotate your hand slightly to cover the strawberry, leaving the top 1-2 cm uncovered, then roll it in the coconut or pistachios, or leave it as is.

Make sure you remember that they're just chocolate covered strawberries. You're not baking or icing or doing anything all that complicated; they're going to be tasty no matter what you do, so just have some fun with it - don't be afraid to get a little chocolatey yourself!
